“UDF Wave” to End Pinarayi Vijayan Era, Claims Ramesh Chennithala | Kerala Assembly Election 2026

HARIPAD, April 09, 2026 — As Kerala heads to the polls for the 2026 Assembly Elections, Senior Congress leader and Chairman of the Election Campaign Committee, Ramesh Chennithala, has declared that the state is witnessing a massive political shift. Speaking to the press after casting his vote at the Mannarasala U.P.S. School in Haripad, Chennithala asserted that today marks the day the people of Kerala say “Goodbye” to the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government.

The End of a “Decade of Darkness”

Chennithala characterized the last ten years under the Left Democratic Front (LDF) as a “period of darkness” and predicted that the 2026 mandate would usher in a new era of light and development for the state.

“There is an unmistakable UDF wave across Kerala. The massive turnout at polling stations is a clear indication that people are yearning for a change in governance,” Chennithala stated. He emphasized that the electorate has already decided to oust the current administration, citing widespread dissatisfaction with economic policies and administrative stagnation.

Allegations of CPM-BJP “Nexus” and Ethical Concerns

In a scathing critique, Chennithala accused the ruling CPM of maintaining a “secret understanding” with the BJP. He alleged that the BJP is engaging in unethical electoral practices—including the distribution of cash, kits, and sarees—to influence voters, a move he described as a threat to democratic values.

“The people of Kerala have seen through the CPM-BJP nexus. These unethical tactics will not work in a state as politically conscious as ours,” he added. He challenged the CPM to distance itself from the BJP and predicted that the UDF would secure over 100 seats in the 140-member assembly.

Economic Implications: NRI Investments and Real Estate

The 2026 election is not just a political battle but a critical juncture for Kerala’s economy. With the state’s Real Estate and Insurance sectors closely tied to NRI remittances, a change in government could signal new opportunities for Gulf NRIs.

Financial analysts suggest that a UDF victory might lead to revised housing policies and infrastructure incentives, potentially driving up property values in Alappuzha and Ernakulam. For the 2.4 million Malayalis residing abroad, the outcome of today’s vote will dictate the future of investment-friendly reforms and social security schemes.

Predicting a Clean Sweep in Alappuzha

Confidence remains high within the UDF camp regarding their performance in the coastal districts. Chennithala expressed absolute certainty that the UDF would win all seats in the Alappuzha district, reclaiming its status as a traditional stronghold.

As of noon today, voter turnout remains high across the state, with long queues reported even in rural pockets. The results, which will determine the state’s direction for the next five years, are eagerly awaited by citizens and the global Malayali diaspora alike.
