
Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather update for Kerala, warning that a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm, bringing heavy rainfall across the state for the next five days.
The intensity of rain is slightly decreasing in North Kerala for the immediate forecast, with an Orange Alert currently restricted to only two districts: Kannur and Kasaragod. An Orange Alert signifies the likelihood of very heavy rainfall, measuring between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
Widespread Rainfall Warnings
The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for six districts, warning of isolated heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. The districts currently under Yellow Alert are Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.
The forecast also predicts the possibility of winds gusting up to 40 kmph in the affected areas.
Five-Day Rain Forecast:
The heavy rainfall is expected to continue with varying intensity across the state throughout the weekend and into the next week:
- Tomorrow (Saturday): Yellow Alert for Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
- Sunday: Yellow Alert for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.
- Monday: Yellow Alert expands to Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.
- Tuesday: Yellow Alert for Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram districts.
