In a significant relief measure for the business community affected by the devastating Mundakkai–Chooralmala landslides in Wayanad, the Kerala government led by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has sanctioned ₹7,19,99,400 (approximately ₹7.20 crore) as compensation for eligible commercial building owners and licensed business entrepreneurs.
The financial assistance will be provided through the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).
The Kerala Disaster Management Department issued an official government order on Thursday, October 29, 2026, authorising the allocation.
Government Order: G.O.(Rt) No. 444/2026/DMD, dated October 29, 2026.
Financial Relief for Landslide-Affected Business Owners
The Mundakkai–Chooralmala landslide disaster caused extensive destruction across affected areas of Wayanad, damaging residential properties, commercial establishments and essential infrastructure.
Apart from the loss of lives and homes, the disaster severely disrupted local economic activities, leaving several traders and entrepreneurs without their regular sources of income.
Recognising the economic challenges faced by affected business owners, the state government has now sanctioned compensation for two categories of beneficiaries:
Owners of commercial buildings with registered building numbers that sustained damage during the disaster.
Licensed traders and business entrepreneurs whose establishments were affected by the landslides.
The allocation is intended to provide financial relief to eligible beneficiaries and support economic recovery in the disaster-affected region.
