​”The Karur event was categorized as high-risk,” Devasirvatham stated. “We deployed 500 personnel in the ratio of one cop for every 50 people, anticipating 25,000 people—2.5 times more than what the organizers themselves had expected.” The actual turnout reportedly reached nearly 27,000.

​The ADGP pointed to previous successful deployments at Vijay’s rallies across the state, citing figures like 650 personnel in Trichy and 480 in Perambalur, as evidence of the force’s consistent approach to high-profile political events. He also contrasted the deployment with that of an AIADMK rally at the same Karur venue, which required only 137 police due to an “orderly crowd.”

This move aims to provide much-needed connectivity for passengers travelling between Kerala and Karnataka for the holidays. A total of four services will be operated on specific dates in September and October.

KARUR: As Tamil Nadu reels from the shocking deaths of 39 people in a stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s rally, preliminary findings suggest the tragedy was a result of a catastrophic chain of events, with a failed crowd-control “trick” and a breaking tree branch acting as the primary triggers.

According to eyewitnesses and police officials, the chaos that turned the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) event into a disaster zone unfolded within just 10 minutes of Vijay beginning his speech. An investigation into the incident points to four critical failures.

1. The Backfired Caravan ‘Tactic’ After Vijay’s rally in Namakkal concluded around 3:30 PM, his team made a crucial decision. To prevent hundreds of fans from following his caravan, they closed the side glass window through which the actor was greeting the public. The assumption was that if the crowd couldn’t see him, they would disperse. This calculation proved tragically wrong.
