THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major relief to families devastated by the massive landslides in Chooralmala and Mundakkai in Wayanad district, the Kerala State Government has extended the monthly house rent assistance scheme until November 2026. The Disaster Management Department issued the formal order (G.O.(Rt) No.446/2026/DMD) on October 30, 2026.
To facilitate the immediate disbursement of house rent for the month of October 2026, the government has sanctioned ₹16,02,000 (Rupees Sixteen Lakh Two Thousand only) to the Wayanad District Collector from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).
Eligible Beneficiaries:
According to the government order, rent assistance will continue to be provided to families affected by the landslide in Meppadi Panchayat under the following criteria:
- Families who have not yet received a house in the designated township.
- Families who have not received the ₹15 lakh financial package for rehabilitation.
- Beneficiaries included in Phase 2A, Phase 2B, and the formal Appeal List.
- Families residing in areas where basic road connectivity and access are yet to be restored.
Background & Implementation:
Earlier government orders had limited the rental support until September 2026. However, following representations from the Wayanad District Collector highlighting that rehabilitation in townships is ongoing and several road links remain unbuilt, the government thoroughly evaluated the situation and granted an extension through November 2026.
