CHENNAI: In a major relief to thousands of pilgrims visiting from across India and abroad, the renowned Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health in Velankanni, Nagapattinam, will remain open 24 hours a day starting today. With this decision, devotees can now enter the main shrine and pray before the altar at any hour of the day or night.
Addressing Pilgrim Concerns
Previously, entry to the main basilica was restricted between 5:00 AM and 9:00 PM. Pilgrims arriving on long-distance trains and buses during late-night or early-morning hours often had to wait outside the complex until morning to offer their prayers.
Considering the persistent appeals from pilgrims, the Bishop of the Thanjavur Diocese, Rev. Dr. T. Sagayaraj, officially announced the decision to grant round-the-clock access. The administration has arranged necessary logistics to ensure smooth crowds and security management overnight.
