Goa: Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar, one of the most distinctive performers in Hindi and Marathi cinema, has died at the age of 75. He passed away at his residence in Goa on Thursday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Patekar was found unconscious at his home in Dona Paula, Goa, in the early hours of Thursday. He was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him for around 45 minutes. Despite the emergency medical efforts, he could not be saved. His death was confirmed at around 5.20 am, according to reports. A post-mortem examination is expected as part of the medico-legal procedure.
A Career Spanning Nearly Five Decades
Born Vishwanath Patekar, Nana Patekar began his artistic journey in Marathi theatre before making his mark in Indian cinema. Over a career spanning nearly five decades, he established himself as one of the most respected and recognisable actors in both Hindi and Marathi films.
His memorable performances in films such as Parinda, Krantiveer, Ab Tak Chhappan, Welcome and Salaam Bombay showcased his remarkable range. He was equally effective in intense dramatic roles and comic performances.
Known for his powerful dialogue delivery, commanding voice and intense screen presence, Patekar brought an unmistakable individuality to every character he portrayed. His work earned him several prestigious honours, including National Film Awards and the Padma Shri.
