KOCHI: In a major strategic push to redefine its global travel footprint, Keralam is shifting focus toward Ayurveda-centered Wellness Tourism to attract high-value international travelers. The initiative featured prominently during high-level bilateral talks held in Kochi between Chief Minister V.D.Satheesan and the US Ambassador to India, H.E. Sergio Gor.
While Keralam has long been renowned for monsoon, backwater, and heritage tourism, the new vision establishes the “Kerala Wellness Experience” as the core brand. Moving beyond standard medical treatments, Keralam’s Unique Selling Proposition (USP) combines authentic Ayurveda, tropical nature, yoga, native cuisine, and slow living to compete with destinations like Bali, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
According to data from the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), the US represents the world’s largest wellness economy at $2.1 trillion. The strategy aims to capture high-value wellness consumers—including corporate executives, stress-relief seekers, diaspora networks, and yoga practitioners.
Key Strategic Highlights:
Kerala–USA Wellness Aviation Initiative: A coordinated effort between CIAL, Keralam Tourism, and global airlines to establish seamless one-stop connections (via Doha, Dubai, or Europe) from major US gateways including New York/New Jersey, Washington D.C., Chicago, and Houston.
“Stay Longer, Pay Less” Packages: To offset airfare costs, curated 14-to-21-day experiential packages combining long-term resort stays, houseboats, Ayurveda therapies, and cultural immersions will be introduced.
Kerala Wellness Desks: Establishing dedicated, professionally managed desks in the US and Keralam to foster partnerships with American wellness brands, universities, and tour operators.
