US Senator Lindsey Graham, Closest Ally of Donald Trump, Dies at 71 After Sudden Illness

WASHINGTON D.C. — In a development that has sent shockwaves across Washington and the Republican Party, long-serving U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham has passed away at the age of 71. According to an official statement released by his office early Sunday morning, the South Carolina Republican died on the evening of Saturday, July 11, 2026, following a “brief and sudden illness.”

On the evening of Saturday, July 11, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham passed away from a brief and sudden illness. Senator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period,” his office stated.

Emergency audio logs revealed that medical personnel responded to a call regarding chest pains at his residence, where CPR was briefly in progress before he was transported to George Washington University Hospital.

A Powerful Legacy and Political Shift
First elected to the Senate in 2002, Graham was one of the nation’s most influential voices on foreign policy, defense, and judicial appointments. He initially started as a fierce critic of Donald Trump during the 2016 Republican primaries, famously calling him a “race-baiting bigot.” However, he pivoted to become one of Trump’s most fiercely loyal congressional defenders and golf companions.

President Donald Trump paid a heartfelt tribute on Truth Social, calling Graham “one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known” and a “true American Patriot.”
