Chennai | October 14, 2026 : Superstar Rajinikanth is preparing for another potentially historic box office opening as his much-awaited film Jailer 2 crosses the ₹50 crore mark in worldwide advance bookings ahead of its theatrical release on October 15.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel has generated extraordinary anticipation among fans and trade analysts, with advance ticket sales indicating a massive opening across India and overseas markets.
The biggest question now is whether Jailer 2 can surpass the ₹151.14 crore worldwide opening-day collection recorded by Rajinikanth’s previous blockbuster, Coolie.
Jailer 2 Crosses ₹50 Crore in Worldwide Advance Bookings
According to box office tracking reports cited by LiveMint, Jailer 2 had accumulated approximately ₹52 crore in worldwide opening-day advance bookings by October 13.
Domestic advance bookings contributed around ₹27 crore, while international pre-sales approached ₹25 crore.
The momentum continued on October 14.
According to updated figures published by Sacnilk, India’s opening-day advance booking gross reached ₹30.84 crore by 7 AM IST on October 14.
The figure includes blocked seats, while the corresponding advance gross excluding those seats stood at approximately ₹26.69 crore.
Around 14.41 lakh tickets had been booked for the opening day across 13,905 shows.
These numbers indicate strong audience interest even before the film reaches theatres.
Tamil Nadu Leads; Kerala and Karnataka Show Strong Demand
Tamil Nadu remains the biggest domestic market for the Rajinikanth starrer.
According to figures reported for October 13, Tamil Nadu contributed approximately ₹11.10 crore in opening-day advance bookings.
Karnataka followed with ₹6 crore, while Kerala recorded around ₹5.50 crore.
Updated October 14 figures from Sacnilk placed Kerala’s advance booking gross across all available show dates at approximately ₹8.06 crore.
The presence of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is also expected to contribute to the film’s appeal among Kerala audiences.
Can Jailer 2 Beat Coolie’s ₹151.14 Crore Opening?
Rajinikanth’s Coolie established an impressive opening-day benchmark with worldwide collections of ₹151.14 crore.
Its opening-day performance included:
India net collection: ₹65 crore
India gross collection: ₹76.14 crore
Overseas gross collection: Approximately ₹75 crore
Worldwide opening-day gross: ₹151.14 crore
The film also registered opening-day advance bookings of ₹46.36 crore.
With Jailer 2 reportedly surpassing that figure in worldwide advance bookings, expectations of another record-breaking opening have intensified.
However, advance ticket sales do not necessarily translate into a higher final opening-day collection.
The film will need strong walk-in bookings, extensive theatrical occupancy and impressive overseas collections to challenge Coolie’s record.
Jailer Franchise Returns After the Success of the Original
The original Jailer, released in 2023, emerged as one of Rajinikanth’s major commercial successes.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the action entertainer featured Rajinikanth as Muthuvel Pandian, a character that became immensely popular among fans.
The film’s mass appeal, action sequences and star-studded appearances helped establish a successful franchise.
The sequel arrives with substantial expectations, particularly among audiences who celebrated the original film.
Mohanlal, Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakraborty Add Star Power
Apart from Rajinikanth, Jailer 2 features an impressive ensemble cast.
Mohanlal, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty and Jackie Shroff are among the prominent names associated with the sequel.
Mohanlal’s presence is particularly significant for the Kerala market, where his appearance in the original film received an enthusiastic response.
The combination of major stars from different Indian film industries could also strengthen the sequel’s appeal across regional markets.
Will Jailer 2 Deliver a ₹100 Crore Opening?
Trade expectations suggest that Jailer 2 has a strong chance of crossing ₹100 crore worldwide on its opening day.
Its advance booking momentum, the popularity of the franchise and Rajinikanth’s established box office appeal provide a solid foundation for a major theatrical opening.
Nevertheless, surpassing Coolie’s ₹151.14 crore worldwide opening would require an exceptional performance.
Final advance booking figures, spot ticket sales, screen availability and overseas audience response will determine the outcome.
Rajinikanth vs Rajinikanth: The Ultimate Box Office Battle
The most fascinating aspect of the Jailer 2 release is that Rajinikanth is competing against his own box office benchmark.
At a stage when most actors experience declining commercial influence, the superstar continues to generate enormous anticipation for his theatrical releases.
The advance booking response to Jailer 2 once again demonstrates the extraordinary fan following he commands.
As the film prepares to hit theatres worldwide on October 15, all eyes are on whether Rajinikanth can rewrite his own opening-day box office record and deliver another historic blockbuster.
