​The award aims to honor creative works that use humor and satire as a tool for social and political resistance. By focusing on parody, Samskara Sahithi seeks to build a defense against increasing intrusions into artistic freedom.

​The award is named after the legendary poet Kunchan Nambiar, who famously used wit and social criticism to challenge even royalty. At a time when creative works often face censorship despite public rhetoric about free speech, the committee views this initiative as a political and cultural statement to uphold Nambiar’s legacy.
