THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a unique move to celebrate satire and protect freedom of expression, the Samskara Sahithi Thiruvananthapuram District Committee has announced the Kunchan Nambiar Award specifically for Malayalam parody songs.
The award aims to honor creative works that use humor and satire as a tool for social and political resistance. By focusing on parody, Samskara Sahithi seeks to build a defense against increasing intrusions into artistic freedom.
The Legacy of Satire
The award is named after the legendary poet Kunchan Nambiar, who famously used wit and social criticism to challenge even royalty. At a time when creative works often face censorship despite public rhetoric about free speech, the committee views this initiative as a political and cultural statement to uphold Nambiar’s legacy.
