Tamil Nadu Braces for Moderate Rain and Gusty Winds Until Sept. 26

CHENNAI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several parts of Tamil Nadu from Sunday until September 26, attributing the weather pattern to a low-level atmospheric circulation over the southern part of the country.

According to a press release from the Chennai Meteorological Centre, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in a few places in North Tamil Nadu and isolated areas in South Tamil Nadu on September 21 and 22. From September 23 to 26, the state is expected to experience light to moderate rain in a few places.

The forecast for Chennai and its suburbs indicates a partly cloudy sky, with a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in some areas.

A cautionary advisory has been issued for fishermen. Strong winds with speeds of 35 to 45 km/h, gusting up to 55 km/h, are expected over coastal areas of South and North Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar, and the adjoining Comorin Sea from September 21 to 24. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas.

In the 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM today, the highest rainfall was recorded in Arakkonam (Ranipet district) and Jaya Engineering College (Tiruvallur district), with 7 cm each. Other areas that received significant rainfall include Ambattur, Ayyapakkam, and Korattur in Chennai (6 cm each), and Avadi, Pullambadi, and Nambiyur (5 cm each).
