Vijay Offers ₹20 Lakh Aid to Families of Karur Stampede Victims
CHENNAI : Actor-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief, Vijay, has announced a substantial compensation package for the victims of the tragic stampede that occurred at his rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, last evening.
The superstar announced a financial assistance of ₹20 lakh for the families of each of the 39 individuals who lost their lives in the tragedy. Additionally, the TVK chief confirmed that his party will provide ₹2 lakh each to the nearly 100 people who were injured and are currently receiving treatment.
The announcement was made through a deeply emotional social media post from his party’s official handle, where the 51-year-old expressed his overwhelming grief. “I am at a loss for words to express the pain my heart endures. My eyes and mind are clouded with sorrow,” Vijay stated, acknowledging the unbearable loss faced by the families.
He emphasized that while the amount is not significant in the face of such an irreparable loss, it is his duty as a member of their extended family to stand by them during this difficult time. Vijay further assured that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam would steadfastly provide all necessary support to the injured.
The state government, led by the MK Stalin-led DMK, had previously announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh for the deceased and ₹1 lakh for the injured. Vijay’s announcement of higher assistance comes as a significant support measure following the devastating incident.
