THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Torrential rains accompanied by strong winds continue to batter Kerala, leaving a trail of destruction across multiple districts. The death toll due to rain-related incidents in the state has risen to 6. High-altitude areas and coastal regions remain severely affected as rescue and relief operations continue in full swing.
Fatalities and Landslide Tragedies
High-altitude and hilly districts witnessed dangerous landslides and flash floods.
Idukki & Kottayam: Landslides in Idukki claimed 2 lives, while another landslide in Kottayam resulted in 2 fatalities.
Kottayam & Malappuram: Two additional rain-related deaths were reported from Kottayam, and 2 people drowned in separate incidents in Malappuram district.
Search Operations for Missing Fishermen
Rough sea conditions and strong coastal winds have posed a major threat to fisherfolk. Four individuals have been reported missing at sea—two from Vizhinjam and two from the Muthalapozhi coastal area. Coastal Police and rescue units are conducting search operations to locate them.
Relief Operations & Structural Damage
Continuous downpours have damaged homes and infrastructure across the affected regions:

Partially Damaged Houses: 127
To accommodate displaced families from low-lying and landslide-prone areas, authorities have set up 62 relief camps statewide, currently shelter 1,338 inmates. District administrations are providing medical aid, food, and safe drinking water at all shelter points.
Disaster management teams remain on high alert, and residents living near riverbanks and slope areas have been advised to strictly adhere to safety protocols and evacuation orders.
