KOCHI: In a significant move aimed at fostering bilateral economic growth and cultural ties, Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan met with the US Ambassador to India, H.E. Sergio Gor, in Kochi on Saturday. The high-level meeting, attended by senior state government officials, laid out a roadmap for expanding cooperation across multiple critical sectors.
The bilateral discussions focused heavily on key areas of economic and developmental interest for Kerala:
Higher Education & Innovation: Proposals were advanced to establish stronger academic partnerships, expand joint research initiatives, and encourage student-faculty exchanges between premier American universities and institutions across Kerala.
​Tourism & Sister Cities Initiative: Highlighting Kerala’s rich natural heritage and globally acclaimed wellness sector, Ambassador Gor commended Kerala’s potential as a premier global destination, particularly for Ayurveda tourism. To build stronger cultural and civic bonds, the two sides discussed exploring “Sister Cities” concepts to connect cities in Kerala with urban centers in the United States.
Maritime Logistics & Ports: Chief Minister Satheesan presented investment potential surrounding port-led development, with a specific emphasis on unlocking opportunities at the Vizhinjam International Seaport and Kochi Port. Key areas discussed included shipbuilding, ship repair, green bunkering, and supply chain management.
Dedicated U.S. Invest Desk: To streamline economic collaboration, the Chief Minister proposed setting up a dedicated “Invest Desk” in the United States. This desk will serve as a bridge to guide prospective investors, assist American businesses looking to establish operations in Kerala, and actively engage with the vibrant non-resident Malayalee diaspora.
Both leaderships expressed enthusiasm for translating these strategic discussions into long-term actionable ventures that benefit both regions.
