Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Government has granted administrative sanction of ₹68 lakh for the Mother Teresa Scholarship Scheme for the financial year 2026-27. The scheme is intended for students belonging to minority religious communities who are pursuing nursing diploma and paramedical diploma courses. The decision was issued by the Minority Welfare Department through Government Order No. 4660/2026/GAD dated September 10, 2026.
The revised budget for 2026-27 has earmarked ₹1,047 lakh under the head ‘2225-04-277-89-12(P)’ for scholarship schemes for students from minority communities. From this allocation, ₹68 lakh has been sanctioned for the Mother Teresa Scholarship Scheme for students pursuing nursing diploma and paramedical diploma courses.
₹15,000 Scholarship Per Student
According to the government order, the scholarship amount is ₹15,000 per student per year.
A total of 453 students are covered under the scheme. At ₹15,000 per student, the scholarship component amounts to ₹67,95,000.
An additional ₹5,000 has been earmarked for administrative expenses, taking the total sanctioned amount to ₹68,00,000.
Sanction Based on Minority Welfare Department Proposal
The sanction follows a request submitted by the Director of the Minority Welfare Department through a letter dated August 13, 2026. The Director had requested that steps be taken to sanction the ₹68 lakh required for the Mother Teresa Scholarship Scheme.
After examining the matter, the government approved the allocation of ₹68 lakh from the ₹1,047 lakh earmarked for scholarship programmes for students belonging to minority communities during the 2026-27 financial year.
