Kochi : Ranjith’s Law and Order has arrived in theatres with considerable expectations, largely because of the return of Mammootty’s iconic Karikkamuri Shanmughan, the character he played in the 2004 film Black.
The film brings together director Ranjith and writer Udayakrishna for a police-action thriller set against the backdrop of a drug cartel operating in Kochi. Prakash Varma plays DYSP Balagopal, the central police protagonist, while Mammootty appears as Karikkamuri Shanmughan.
How is Mammootty as Karikkamuri Shanmughan?
Mammootty’s return is undoubtedly the biggest attraction of the film.
After 22 years, seeing him once again as Karikkamuri Shanmughan creates an immediate sense of nostalgia. His appearance, body language, dialogue delivery and screen presence provide the film with some of its most crowd-pleasing moments.
Story and Prakash Varma’s role
The film primarily follows DYSP Balagopal, played by Prakash Varma.
Balagopal is a determined police officer fighting a powerful drug network in Kochi. His professional battle is complicated by personal tragedy, and he joins forces with a group of young police officers to take on the criminal empire.
