New Delhi: Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi made her official debut on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, sharing a deeply personal video recounting her first meeting and journey of love with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The post also offers a glimpse into her highly anticipated memoir, ‘Belonging: A Journey of Love’.
A Greek Restaurant in England: Where It All Began
Recalling her student days in England, Sonia Gandhi shared how her search for Italian food led her to a Greek eatery—the Varsity Restaurant—frequented by European and Indian students. It was here that she was introduced to Rajiv Gandhi through a mutual friend.
”When I first met him, I felt almost immediately that, you know, he was someone I would really love to be with. And, of course, I learned that it was the same for him,” Sonia Gandhi recalled.
Gentleness That Made a Lasting Impression
Describing her initial impression of Rajiv Gandhi, she praised his demeanor and charm. “He was a very gentle-looking person. Of course, he was very good-looking. But that gentleness came through. So that was something which really touched me and struck me,” she added.
The couple married on February 25, 1968. The debut on X follows Sonia Gandhi’s recent entry onto Instagram, where she shared the first copy of her memoir set to be released globally on November 10. Her memoir chronicles her personal life, duty, loss, and finding her true sense of belonging in India.
