THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Demonstrating his hallmark eloquence and deep awareness of the audience, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan delivered an engaging inaugural address at the ‘Magalkkoppam’ initiative organized by the Women and Child Development Department. The event, aimed at formulating a comprehensive Women’s Policy for the state, saw widespread participation from prominent women across various domains, transcending political lines.
The stage and audience reflected political inclusivity, with senior Left leaders including P.K. Sreemathi Teacher and P. Satheidevi sharing the platform with the Chief Minister alongside numerous LDF activists in the audience.
Striking an instant chord with the gathering, CM Satheesan opened his speech by remarking how outdated traditional patriarchal idioms like “Don’t mess with men” have become in today’s progressive era.
He went on to share a personal anecdote involving his daughter. During a travel conversation about wildlife attacks, he had referred to the issue as a “Man-Animal Conflict.” His daughter promptly pointed out the inherent gender bias in the term, asking whether such issues affected only men, and suggested using “Human-Animal Conflict” instead. The Chief Minister shared that he has strictly adhered to the term ‘Human-Animal Conflict’ ever since.
Addressing critical safety concerns, CM Satheesan announced that the government has initiated procedures to frame a Special Act aimed at combating cyber crimes against women. The address was widely praised for its warmth, relevance, and perfect alignment with the spirit of the occasion.
