Red Fort Terror Scare: High-Intensity Car Blast Kills 8, Injures 20 in Delhi; NIA Joins Probe

New Delhi: Eight people were killed and 20 others severely injured in a high-intensity explosion that ripped through a slow-moving car near the historic Red Fort in Delhi on the evening of November 10, 2025. The blast, which occurred at 6:52 PM near the Red Fort Metro Station traffic signal, has sent shockwaves across the nation, triggering high-alert status in multiple states.

The explosion, described by witnesses as a “huge fireball” that shook nearby building windows, originated from a Hyundai i20 with Haryana registration plates. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed that there were occupants inside the vehicle when it exploded. Disturbing visuals from the scene showed mangled bodies, severed body parts, and three to four wrecked cars scattered across the busy road.

NIA and NSG Join Investigation

Hours after the incident, India’s premier counter-terror agencies, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG), immediately reached the site to launch a thorough probe. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was briefed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and later visited both the blast site and the Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP) where the injured were admitted.

”We are probing all possibilities and all angles will be investigated thoroughly,” Home Minister Shah stated, confirming that the Delhi Crime Branch and Special Branch teams, along with FSL, were examining the area and CCTV footage.

Link to Faridabad Explosives Haul

The timing of the explosion has raised major security concerns, as it occurred on the same day a massive haul of 2,900 kg of explosives was discovered at two houses in Faridabad, Haryana—just 50 kilometers from the capital. Security forces are investigating any potential link between the two incidents.

Following the tragic event, a high alert has been sounded in states and major cities, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and those with upcoming elections, such as Bihar. Security has been significantly ramped up at major railway stations and critical infrastructure nationwide. The blast marks the third explosion near the Red Fort since 1997, a sensitive area located near the congested Chandni Chowk Market, which sees lakhs of visitors daily.
