THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Malayalam actor Salim Kumar, Chief Minister VD Satheesan announced a budget allocation of ₹1 crore for the construction of a cultural memorial in Ernakulam.
The National Award-winning actor, who entertained and moved audiences for over three decades across a prolific career of more than 300 films, passed away on June 6, 2026, at a private hospital in Kochi. Known for transitioning seamlessly from slapstick comedy to powerhouse character roles, Salim Kumar remains an irreplaceable icon in the cultural fabric of Kerala.
Chief Minister VD Satheesan stated that the memorial will celebrate the late actor’s artistic legacy, charting his incredible journey from mimicry stages to cinema history.
