THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major boost to the newly presented Kerala State Budget 2026, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has warmly welcomed the government’s landmark decisions for the entertainment sector. Taking to his official Facebook handle, the veteran actor expressed his immense joy over the government’s announcement to officially grant ‘industry status’ to cinema and the proposed establishment of state-of-the-art cultural parks.
​Mohanlal extended his heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan (who also holds the Finance portfolio) and Cultural Affairs Minister P.C. Vishnunadh for introducing these progressive reforms.

The UDF government’s maiden budget, presented by CM V.D. Satheesan, has earmarked substantial funds for cultural and cinematic infrastructure. Key highlights include the allocation of ₹100 crores for the ‘J.C. Daniel International Film City (Chithranagaram)’ in Kochi and ₹50 crores for an ‘M.T. Vasudevan Nair Cultural Park’ in Kozhikode.
The film fraternity has long demanded the official status of an ‘industry’, which is expected to unlock streamlined bank financing, subsidies, and better labor welfare schemes for thousands of workers involved in filmmaking. Mohanlal’s prompt appreciation reflects the widespread optimism pulsing through the Malayalam film industry following these landmark announcements.
