CHENNAI : In a strongly worded social media post, actor Vishal has expressed profound grief and anger over the tragic stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s recent rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which claimed the lives of over 30 people, including children.
Taking to his official Facebook account, Vishal labeled the incident “Utter nonsense,” stating that the news of “more than 30 people including children losing their lives over a stampede in actor/politician Vijay’s rally is heartwrenching and totally not right.”
The statement, shared late Saturday evening, reflects the widespread shock and distress following one of the worst political tragedies in the state’s recent history. The stampede occurred after a massive crowd gathered for a political meeting held by Vijay, the chief of the newly formed political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Demand for Justice and Compensation
Vishal extended his deepest sympathies, writing, “My heart goes out to every one of those innocent victims and my deepest condolences to every one of them & their respective families. May their souls rest in peace.”
Crucially, the actor did not stop at offering condolences. He made a sincere and direct appeal to the organizers, demanding immediate financial support for the victims’ families. “My sincere request to the @TVKVijayHQ party to kindly provide compensation to the deceased victims as that will be the least the party can do,” he stated.
A Call for Future Safety
The actor also stressed the urgent need for stringent safety measures at future political gatherings to prevent a recurrence of such a disaster. “Hope there will be enough safety arrangements from now onwards in any political rallies that will be held in the future,” Vishal concluded.
The tragic incident, which has been trending with the hashtags #Disheartening and #BlackDay, has led to intense scrutiny of crowd management and planning for high-profile political events across the state. Authorities and the political party involved face mounting pressure to address the lapses that led to the heavy loss of life.
