Staunch Modi Critic, Ex-IAS Officer Kannan Gopinathan Joins Congress Party
New Delhi: Kannan Gopinathan, a former IAS officer who resigned from the civil services in protest against the central government’s policies, officially joined the Congress party on Monday. A prominent and vocal critic of the Modi administration, Gopinathan was formally inducted into the party at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi at 11:30 AM.
Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal welcomed him into the party in the presence of other leaders, including Kanhaiya Kumar. Hailing from Kerala, Gopinathan’s entry into mainstream politics is considered significant, especially with assembly elections in several states, including Kerala, on the horizon.
K.C. Venugopal stated that Gopinathan’s decision to join came after meetings with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi.
Upon joining, Gopinathan pledged to work for the people. “This is the party of citizens. However, a journey from being citizens to subjects is currently underway. The goal is to journey back to being citizens,” he said. He added that his specific role within the party would be decided by the leadership.
