Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has found himself in fresh legal trouble after a consumer court in Kota, Rajasthan, issued a notice regarding his endorsement of an elaichi product linked to a paan masala brand. The complaint, filed by an advocate, alleges that the advertisement is both misleading and promotes the consumption of a harmful product among youth.
​The notice was issued to the actor and the manufacturing company following a petition filed by Inder Mohan Singh Honey, a BJP leader and Rajasthan High Court advocate. The petitioner argued that the advertisement is detrimental, especially considering Salman Khan’s status as a “role model” for millions.
​Key Allegations in the Complaint
​The complaint outlines two primary concerns:
- ​Misleading Claims: The advertisement promotes the elaichi product as “saffron-infused” while being priced at just ₹5. The petitioner argued that this claim is unrealistic, highlighting that pure saffron can cost approximately ₹4 lakh per kilogram.
- ​Encouraging Harmful Consumption: The core concern is that by endorsing the elaichi product, the advertisement subtly promotes the consumption of paan masala, which is a major cause of mouth cancer. The petitioner urged celebrities to refrain from promoting such products that send the wrong message to young people.
​The Kota Consumer Court has sought responses from both Salman Khan and the manufacturing company. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for November 27.
