Paravur: The Paravur KSRTC Depot is set for a major infrastructure upgrade, with Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan directing the Public Works Department architect to prepare a plan for a new depot building with modern facilities.
The existing KSRTC depot operates from a building constructed several years ago. With the implementation of the Priyadarshini scheme, the number of passengers, vehicles and employees associated with the depot has increased significantly, making the existing facilities inadequate.
According to Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, the proposed project will involve preparing a comprehensive plan based on the available land. Existing structures, including the workshop, will be demolished to make way for a new integrated facility.
Modern Passenger Amenities
The ground floor of the proposed building will include separate air-conditioned waiting rooms for men and women. Dedicated toilet facilities will also be provided.
Snack counters will be established alongside the waiting areas, while a spacious dining hall is also planned to improve the overall passenger experience.
The ground floor will additionally accommodate a room for the controlling officer, a security cabin and rest facilities for employees operating the buses arriving at and departing from the depot.
New Workshop and Staff Facilities
A new workshop will be constructed on the northern side of the depot premises.
The first floor will be designed to accommodate offices and other facilities required by KSRTC employees and officers.
The second floor will feature separate rest rooms for male and female employees who arrive at the depot during night hours.
Funds to Be Sanctioned Next Month
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said that once the detailed plan and estimate are prepared, the required funds will be sanctioned as early as next month.
The proposed redevelopment is expected to transform the Paravur KSRTC Depot into a more modern and passenger-friendly transport facility while also improving working and resting facilities for KSRTC employees.
