MUZAFFARPUR, BIHAR: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has ignited a fresh political controversy after delivering a series of sharp attacks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a rally in Bihar, with the most contentious remark being his declaration that the Prime Minister would “dance” for votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responded instantly and furiously, condemning Gandhi’s words as unbecoming and a massive insult to the nation’s electorate.
Kickstarting the Congress’ campaign—in alliance with Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)—Gandhi launched a crude, verbal offensive, accusing PM Modi of a singular focus on electoral gains.
”He just wants your vote. If you tell Narendra Modi to dance. He will dance,” Gandhi stated, suggesting the Prime Minister would do “anything for votes.”
The Congress leader did not stop at the personal jibe. He went on to repeat serious accusations that the ruling party was engaged in systematic voter fraud, alleging that the BJP was “stealing” elections across the country. “I am telling you, they stole elections in Maharashtra, they stole elections in Haryana, and they will try their best in Bihar…,” he claimed, reiterating long-standing allegations of collusion with the Election Commission to manipulate poll results.
BJP Fires Back: ‘Words of a Local Goon’
The immediate and fierce reaction from the BJP has escalated the political rhetoric in the run-up to the Bihar assembly polls. The party ripped into Gandhi, asserting that his comments were not just directed at the Prime Minister but were a slight against millions of voters.
A BJP spokesperson was quoted as calling Gandhi’s words those of a “local goon,” adding that the Congress MP had “insulted every person who had voted for the PM.”
In a separate attack during the same rally, Gandhi also mocked the Prime Minister over a report of a specially constructed, filtered pond in Delhi for the performance of Chhath Puja, a sacred Hindu festival that involves taking a ritual dip in a body of water. “There is no Yamuna there… there is a pond there. He went to bathe in his ‘swimming pool’. He has nothing to do with the Yamuna… with Chhath Puja,” Gandhi asserted, aiming to portray the action as a ceremonial disconnect from traditional faith and ground realities.
The escalating war of words highlights the highly charged atmosphere of the Bihar election, with both major political alliances using aggressive personal and political attacks to galvanize their support base.
