Extending the legacy of one of Bollywood’s most beloved romantic action thrillers, the official trailer for Awarapan 2 has been unveiled. Reprising his cult-favorite role as Shivam Pandit, actor Emraan Hashmi returns in a darker, more brooding, and vengeance-driven avatar. The 1-minute 25-second trailer promises a high-stakes action saga where Shivam is willing to push all boundaries to settle unresolved scores from his past.
Presented by Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Films, the sequel is a Vishesh Bhatt Production, directed by Nitin Kakkar and penned by Bilal Siddiqui. The film expands on the world established in the original 2007 classic, which became a monumental pop-culture benchmark over the last two decades.
Disha Patani’s Stunts and Shabana Azmi as Antagonist
The trailer offers fans a glimpse into the revamped narrative universe of Awarapan 2. Actress Disha Patani surprises audiences in an action-packed, gun-toting role, performing high-octane stunts that mark a departure from her previous romantic screen portrayals.
Adding formidable gravitas to the ensemble, veteran actress Shabana Azmi appears as the film’s powerful antagonist. The cast is rounded out by strong performers including Suvinder Vicky, Vijayant Kohli, Atul Kumar, and debutant Aniruddh Rawal.
Addressing recent industry speculation, both the production house and Emraan Hashmi rubbished rumors of any production delays, confirming that the movie is on track for its scheduled theatrical release on August 14, 2026
Original 2007 Film to Re-Release in Theatres as a Prequel
During a live Instagram session with fans following the trailer drop, Emraan Hashmi announced a unique theatrical re-release plan for the franchise. The original 2007 Awarapan, directed by Mohit Suri, will be re-released in cinemas as a prequel to give new audiences and loyal fans the full experience.
“For all Awarapan fans who watched the first film, I’m sure they will come remembering the original. When they watch part 2, they’ll have new memories added to Awarapan 1 once they step out of the hall,”Emraan shared during his live session. “And for Gen Z, who did not watch Awarapan 1 in theatres, watching part 2 will make them very curious. We will be releasing Awarapan 1 as a prequel—the original story of Shivam—so people get to experience it on the big screen.”
Thematic Evolution and Independence Day Clash
Awarapan 2 builds on the emotional depth, redemption arcs, and chart-topping musical heritage that defined Vishesh Films during the mid-2000s. With reimagined tracks and fresh compositions by Mithoon, Amaal Mallik, Jeet Gannguli, and Akhil Sachdeva, the film aims to revive classic Bollywood romantic-thriller music.
Receiving its U/A 16+ certificate from the CBFC with a runtime of 140 minutes, Awarapan 2 is locked for a global theatrical release on August 14, 2026, positioning it as a major holiday weekend blockbuster.
