THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal and the previous LDF administration have come under intense scrutiny for leaving behind a massive financial burden of nearly ₹35 crore on cooperative societies delivering welfare pensions to doorsteps.
According to records, the previous state government cleared doorstep pension distribution incentives for primary agricultural credit cooperative societies only up to November 2025. However, the incentives for five consecutive months—December 2025, January 2026, February 2026, March 2026, and April 2026—were left completely unpaid before the government demitted office.
Delivering these pensions requires monthly administrative and agent overhead costs. With the required incentive estimated at approximately ₹7 crore per month, the cumulative unpaid dues stand at around ₹35 crore.
