Brisbane, Australia, November 8, 2025 — Indian cricket sensation Abhishek Sharma has rewritten the T20 International record books, achieving the milestone of the fastest player to reach 1,000 runs in terms of balls faced for a single country. The left-handed opener achieved the historic feat during the 5th T20I against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Sharma, known for his explosive batting, reached the four-figure mark having faced just 528 balls in his T20I career for India, showcasing an unparalleled strike-rate efficiency at the top of the order.
The swashbuckling batter officially dethroned Australia’s Tim David, who had previously held the world record after reaching the 1,000-run milestone for his nation in 569 balls. Sharma’s record now sets a staggering new benchmark for batters worldwide.
In addition to the global record, the 22-year-old also became the fastest Indian to reach the 1,000-run mark in T20Is in terms of matches played, achieving the feat in his 28th appearance. While he narrowly missed out on eclipsing Virat Kohli’s record of reaching 1,000 runs in 27 innings, his combined achievement marks a historic night for Indian cricket.
Abhishek Sharma’s entry into the record books solidifies his reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in the T20 format, adding yet another highlight to what has been a breakout year for the batsman.
