THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major festive relief for laborers facing economic distress, the Kerala Government has sanctioned ₹20.87 lakh to distribute ₹1,000 ‘Supplyco Onam Gift Cards’ to workers in closed and non-operational plantations across the state.
The special financial assistance aims to ensure that distressed plantation families can celebrate Onam without food insecurity. Beneficiaries will be able to redeem these ₹1,000 gift cards at any nearby Supplyco outlet to purchase essential groceries, food grains, and household items according to their preference.
This decision comes as part of the state government’s broader festival welfare package targeting traditional and labor-intensive sectors. The distribution process will be executed seamlessly in coordination with the Plantation Workers Welfare Board and the Department of Civil Supplies to ensure the benefit reaches all eligible workers before Onam.
