Vizhinjam Rail Link Gets Land Acquisition Push; 2.3195 Hectares Brought Under Revised Notification

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Government has issued an amendment notification to acquire additional land for the proposed rail connectivity between Vizhinjam International Port and Balaramapuram Railway Station. The Revenue (B) Department issued G.O.(P) No. 282/2026/RD dated September 14, 2026, which was published in the Kerala Gazette on September 15, 2026 as S.R.O. No. 763/2026.

The land acquisition is connected with the rail connectivity reach linking Vizhinjam International Port with Balaramapuram Railway Station. The affected areas are located in Pallichal and Balaramapuram villages of Neyyattinkara Taluk in Thiruvananthapuram district. The acquisition process is being carried out under the provisions of the 2013 land acquisition legislation dealing with fair compensation, transparency, rehabilitation and resettlement.

Earlier notification covered 0.8802 hectares

An earlier notification issued on August 1, 2026 covered land in Pallichal Village Block No. 5, including 15 LA sub-divisions under Re-survey Nos. 474, 479, 481 and 482, along with 24 LA sub-divisions in Balaramapuram Village Block No. 13.

The earlier notification covered a total of 0.8802 hectares for acquisition.

104 additional LA sub-divisions added

The latest amendment expands the acquisition list by including 104 additional LA sub-divisions.

In Pallichal Village, the additional areas cover Re-survey Nos. 474, 475, 477, 478, 479, 481, 482 and 484 in Block No. 5. In Balaramapuram Village, the notification includes Re-survey Nos. 564, 565, 566, 568, 569, 574, 575, 132, 137, 157 and 150 in Block No. 13.

With the additional land included, approximately 2.3195 hectares, excluding puramboke land, will come under the acquisition process. The government has stated that the amendment has been issued to meet the requirements of the project.

The land acquisition forms part of the infrastructure development aimed at establishing rail connectivity between Vizhinjam International Port and Balaramapuram Railway Station. The expanded acquisition notification is intended to ensure the land required for implementing the rail connectivity project.
