Kathmandu: The casualty count from the devastating flash floods and landslides along the Nepal-Tibet border continues to mount rapidly. According to an official update from the Nepal Police released at 17:00 local time, the death toll has jumped to 359.
This update comes barely an hour after authorities had put the count at 332, underscoring the severe and rapidly evolving nature of the catastrophe. Emergency personnel and rescue teams have been working round the clock as bodies continue to be recovered from floodwaters and mudslides across multiple affected districts, including Chitwan, Nawalparasi East, Dhading, Gorkha, Nuwakot, and Rasuwa.
The disaster was triggered by a sudden ice-rock avalanche upstream that choked tributaries and released massive surges down the Bhotekoshi, Trishuli, and Narayani river systems. The raging torrents swept away settlements, national highways, power infrastructure, and motorable bridges.
​Hundreds of individuals—including local residents, security forces, and international tourists—remain unaccounted for. Search and rescue operations are being conducted on a war footing using rescue helicopters and specialized ground forces to reach remote, cut-off regions and transport essential supplies to survivors. Authorities warn that the fatality figure could rise further as recovery efforts expand into heavily affected zones.
