Karur: Three days after a tragic stampede at his political rally in Karur claimed 41 lives, actor-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has broken his silence. In a video statement, Vijay described the incident as the “most painful situation” of his life and said he was “shaken to the core.”

The deadly stampede occurred during a TVK event where massive, uncontrolled crowd swelling was cited as a contributing factor. In the aftermath, serious questions have been raised about the safety arrangements and crowd management at the high-profile political gathering.

The incident has also taken a political and legal turn. On Monday, TVK’s Karur district secretary, Mathiyazhagan, was arrested in connection with the tragedy. Rejecting the notion that the stampede was an accident, Vijay’s party has alleged it was the result of a “conspiracy.” The TVK has subsequently moved the Madras High Court with their claims, seeking a judicial intervention into the matter.
