Congress Relaunches Spokesperson Talent Hunt: Chandy Oommen and Shama Mohamed Get Key National Roles
New Delhi, October 22, 2025: The Indian National Congress (INC) has initiated a sweeping overhaul of its media strategy by launching a national-level Talent Hunt to identify and train a new cohort of party spokespersons. In a significant move aimed at integrating fresh, dynamic faces into its national outreach, the party has appointed young leaders Chandy Oommen and Dr. Shama Mohamed to key organizational roles.
Both leaders have been designated as Nodal Coordinators for the Talent Hunt program, which falls under the purview of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Media Department, led by Pavan Khera. The initiative is designed to ensure the Congress’s ideology and policies are effectively communicated to the public by a generation of articulate and media-savvy representatives.
The new appointments also come with specific state responsibilities, positioning the young leaders at the center of the party’s restructuring efforts. Chandy Oommen, son of late former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, has been entrusted with the charge of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, Dr. Shama Mohamed has been appointed the Nodal Officer for Goa.
A Focused Search for Communicators
The Talent Hunt is a structured effort to move beyond the traditional system of PCC (Pradesh Congress Committees) appointing spokespersons who are often seen as favoring regional power centres. The national leadership aims to scout young men and women across the country who are committed to Congress principles and possess strong communication skills.
Prospective candidates will be required to submit video clips of themselves speaking on selected topics, along with their bio-data. The Nodal Coordinators, including Oommen and Mohamed, will be responsible for drawing up a shortlist based on criteria such as party loyalty, clarity of thought, and media handling capabilities.
Those selected will undergo intensive training, including digital media workshops and classes led by senior journalists and Congress leaders, before being included in the official panel of national, state, and local spokespersons. This strategic move underscores the Congress party’s commitment to revitalizing its public interface and ensuring a more consistent, professional message resonates across all media platforms.
