Kerala MLA Sparks Row: U. Prathibha Slams ‘Naked’ Celebrities at Inaugurations, Takes Swipe at Mohanlal’s TV Show

Kayamkulam, Kerala: CPI(M) MLA U. Prathibha has ignited a firestorm of controversy following a fiery speech that targeted the attire of celebrities at public functions and criticized a popular reality show hosted by actor Mohanlal.

Speaking at a cultural event in Kayamkulam recently, Prathibha lamented the current trend where “celebrities who don’t wear clothes” are being sought for inaugurations.

”Now, for inaugurations in our town, they only need stars who are practically naked,” Prathibha asserted. “If a star who hasn’t worn clothes comes, everyone rushes in. This must be stopped. They should be told to come properly dressed.”

The MLA was quick to preempt moral policing allegations, stating, “Don’t come at me calling this ‘moral policing.’ We live in a country where one has the freedom to wear clothes or not wear clothes, but one should dress decently.”

Criticism for Mohanlal’s Reality Show

Prathibha did not stop there, extending her criticism to a popular television reality show hosted by legendary actor Mohanlal.

She referred to the show as a “peeping-tom program” run by an “immortal actor.” According to Prathibha, the show’s content involves “peeping at others while they sleep” and “commenting on whether their clothes are tight.”

The MLA concluded her speech by challenging the culture of celebrity worship in a democracy. She argued that “it is not star kings who should lead a democracy, but down-to-earth people who work among the masses,” urging the audience to speak out bravely against the trend.

The remarks have drawn immediate attention and debate on social media, with many criticizing the MLA for moral policing and others supporting her call for focus on substance over celebrity.
