Vadakara MDMA Racket: How Educator Keerthana Allegedly Masterminded a High-Profile School Teacher Drug Network

Shocking Disclosures Emerge Following Police Custody Application

In a scandal that has sent shockwaves through Kerala’s education and law enforcement sectors, special investigation teams probing the Vadakara synthetic drug bust have named 31-year-old K.C. Keerthana as a central mastermind in an expanding MDMA syndicate. Keerthana, a former physical education instructor with the Perambra Block Resource Centre (BRC), stands accused of utilizing her respectable professional standing as a shield to orchestrate illicit narcotics transactions and lure fellow female educators into the illicit trade.

Court documents submitted during a police custody application before the Vadakara Special NDPS Court reveal that digital forensic analysis of Keerthana’s smartphone yielded damning evidence. Investigators recovered photo logs of illicit narcotics, explicit chat transcripts discussing transaction points, and electronic payment records detailing financial transfers from her accounts to co-accused teachers and delivery operatives.

Massive Financial Trails and Inter-State Cartel Connections

The investigation—spearheaded by Kozhikode Rural Police under the statewide anti-narcotics initiative ‘Operation Toofan’—has exposed a complex financial web stretching across state borders. While initial arrests connected an online delivery worker, Jijin Kuriakose, whose accounts reflected transactions exceeding ₹1 crore, bank audits of the arrested special educators revealed funds running into lakhs of rupees linked directly to drug proceeds.

According to senior officers from the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF), Keerthana operated as a pivotal financial intermediary and distribution node. Investigators allege that she worked alongside primary supplier Shinto Shibu, a 22-year-old native of Wayanad, sourcing clients via social media channels like Instagram and coordinating drug drops across Kozhikode and neighboring districts.

Defensive Counter-Claims: “My Accounts Show Negative Balances”

Despite the pile of digital and forensic evidence presented by the prosecution, Keerthana vehemently maintained her innocence while being escorted by police officers outside the courthouse. Speaking briefly to media reporters, the former instructor made an emotional appeal, dismissing the police claims as fabrications.

“I am an educator and a mother to a young boy; I have never engaged in drug trafficking,” Keerthana told journalists. “The public should not blindly accept everything the police state. My accounts at the Kerala Gramin Bank and Canara Bank in Koyilandy do not show lakhs of rupees—they are in the negative due to pending loan EMIs. Media outlets must investigate the actual truth.”

Her defense attorney echoed these arguments in court, asserting that the only monetary transfer involving co-accused teacher K. Kavya was a routine personal loan of ₹5,000 provided to assist an acquaintance in financial distress, rather than the proceeds of synthetic drug sales.
