Mumbay: The reported attack on Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff has sparked widespread concern across the Hindi film industry, with prominent filmmakers questioning celebrity security and the effectiveness of law enforcement. Ram Gopal Varma, Hansal Mehta, Anurag Kashyap and other industry personalities have called for stronger action against criminal networks and a thorough investigation into the incident.
Ram Gopal Varma: ‘A Never-Before-Seen Phenomenon’ Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma expressed concern over what he described as a disturbing shift in the motives behind violence. “This is a never-before-seen phenomenon. Instead of violence relating to extortion, contract killings, settlements etc for the first time ever, they seem to be wanting to kill for vanity and pride,” he said.
His remarks highlight concerns that violence could be motivated by personal ego and a desire to establish dominance rather than conventional criminal objectives.
Hansal Mehta: ‘More Bouncers Are Not the Answer’
Director Hansal Mehta stressed that celebrity security cannot depend entirely on private bodyguards.
“It’s scary. I hope Tiger and his team are safe. The industry can’t protect itself with more bouncers. That’s a private answer to a public problem,” he said.
Mehta emphasised that protecting citizens is the state’s responsibility and urged industry members to speak up against violence consistently.
“The silence is what these people count on,” he added, warning against reacting only when prominent celebrities become targets.
Manish Gupta Highlights Social Media Risks
Writer-director Manish Gupta warned that publicly available personal information can make film industry professionals vulnerable.
According to him, social media has made residential addresses, workplaces, restaurants and gyms frequented by celebrities easier to identify.
He called for more effective policing, criminal investigations and stronger legal action against individuals involved in threats and illegal activities.
Anurag Kashyap Questions Prison Security
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap questioned how individuals in prison could allegedly influence criminal activities outside.
Referring to research conducted for his film Bandar, he argued that authorities must investigate whether incarcerated individuals can operate through outside networks.
He also questioned why law enforcement could not act against known threats before violence occurs. His comments raised broader concerns about prison security and the effectiveness of preventive policing.
Manoj Muntashir Demands Investigation Into Masterminds
Lyricist and writer Manoj Muntashir strongly condemned the reported attack, describing Tiger Shroff as a gentleman with a clean personal reputation, based on his knowledge.
He said the incident should not be directly compared with the 2000 attack on filmmaker Rakesh Roshan because the circumstances were different.
Muntashir expressed confidence in the Maharashtra government but stressed that the investigation must go beyond the alleged attackers.
“Arresting the perpetrators is only the first step; bringing the real conspirators to justice is what matters,” he said.
Filmmaker Suneel Darshan also questioned why Tiger had allegedly been targeted.
Bollywood Demands Accountability
The reactions underline a common concern: additional bodyguards alone cannot address threats linked to organised crime. Industry members want stronger policing, effective investigations and accountability at every level.
The motive behind the reported attack and any wider conspiracy must be established through evidence and official investigation.
For Bollywood, the incident has become a wider debate about celebrity safety and the state’s responsibility to protect citizens from threats and violence.
