Major Recruitment: Kerala PSC to Announce 23 New Posts in KSEB, KSFE, and More

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, October 10, 2025: In a significant move for job seekers in the state, the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved the publication of notifications for 23 new posts across a wide range of government departments and public sector undertakings (PSUs). The official gazette notification is scheduled for October 15, 2025, with the deadline for applications set for November 19, 2025.

The recruitment drive includes highly sought-after positions such as Assistant Grade-2 in major PSUs including the Kerala State Financial Enterprises (KSFE), Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), and various other development corporations.

Other prominent state-level general category posts announced are Junior Assistant/Cashier in entities like the Civil Supplies Corporation, Junior Cooperative Inspector in the Khadi and Village Industries Board, and Assistant Engineer (Electrical) in the KSEB through transfers.

At the district level, opportunities will open up for roles like High School Teacher (Arabic) in Idukki and Civil Excise Officer Driver in the Excise and Prohibition Department, among others.

In addition to direct state and district-level appointments, the PSC will also issue several NCA (No Candidate Available) notifications to fill backlog vacancies reserved for specific communities, ensuring inclusive representation.

​In a major political escalation, three United Democratic Front (UDF) MLAs—Roji M. John, M. Vincent, and Sanish Kumar—were suspended from the Kerala Legislative Assembly shortly after the day’s proceedings were abruptly terminated, a process Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan has termed a “guillotine.”

​Satheesan vehemently rejected the grounds for the suspension, alleging it was a “conspiracy” orchestrated by the Speaker in collusion with the government. He asserted that the suspended members were innocent and had committed no fault.

​”They have not committed any act of violence, nor have they disrupted Assembly proceedings like their counterparts in the CPM have done in the past. They did not attack the Speaker or climb onto the Speaker’s dais,” Satheesan said.

​Excessive Force and Unprecedented Action

​The Opposition Leader claimed that the deployment of the Watch and Ward staff was disproportionate, outnumbering the opposition members present. He stated that M. Vincent and Sanish Kumar sustained injuries after being caught amidst the excessive security personnel, despite the opposition not resorting to violence.

​Satheesan accused the ruling front of deliberately instigating the conflict. “Yesterday, it was the Chief Minister and Minister Riyas who attempted to provoke the opposition and incite violence. Today, it was the Speaker’s turn to be the provocateur,” he charged.

​The UDF leader further criticized the Speaker’s directive to seize and tear the opposition’s banner, calling it an unprecedented move in the state’s legislative history. “Many times, the CPM in Kerala has demonstrated in the Assembly with banners and placards. Yet, no Speaker during a UDF government’s tenure has ever directed that a banner be torn up,” he noted.

​Protest to Go Statewide

​Drawing a parallel between political repression at the national and state levels, Satheesan stated, “The situation is similar in Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram. When a voice is raised against violence, injustice, and corruption, there is an attempt to silence that voice.”

​He warned that the attempt to stifle dissent would fail. “This voice will not be silenced; it is going to echo across all of Kerala,” he declared.

​Terming the suspension of the three MLAs after the ‘guillotining’ of the session a fundamentally wrong decision, Satheesan announced the expansion of the protest outside the Assembly. He confirmed that a fierce statewide agitation would be launched, commencing from Pathanamthitta district.

STOCKHOLM: Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai, a visionary writer known for his dense, demanding, and often apocalyptic novels, was awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday. The Swedish Academy praised him for a body of work that finds profound meaning and the power of art amidst terror and despair.

The prize, worth 11 million Swedish crowns (approximately $1.2 million), celebrates the 71-year-old author’s unique position in world literature. “The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2025 is awarded to the Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art,” announced Mats Malm, Permanent Secretary of the Swedish Academy.

The jury described Krasznahorkai as “a great epic writer in the Central European tradition that extends through Kafka to Thomas Bernhard, and is characterised by absurdism and grotesque excess.”

A Career Built on Despair and Beauty

Born in 1954 in Gyula, Hungary, Krasznahorkai burst onto the literary scene with his 1985 debut novel, ‘Sátántangó’. Set in a desolate rural landscape, the novel captured the haunting despair of a post-communist society and became a landmark of contemporary Hungarian literature. It was later adapted into a celebrated seven-and-a-half-hour film by his long-time collaborator, director Béla Tarr.

His more recent work, ‘Herscht 07769’, has been hailed as a great contemporary German novel. The Academy noted its “credible portrayal of a contemporary small town in Thüringen, Germany, which is nevertheless also afflicted by social anarchy, murder and arson.” They praised it as being “written in a single breath, about violence and beauty ‘impossibly’ conjoined.”

Krasznahorkai’s literary vision is also shaped by his travels in East Asia. His 2003 novel, translated as ‘A Mountain to the North, a Lake to the South, Paths to the West, a River to the East’, is a lyrical and mysterious tale set near Kyoto, Japan. This work serves as a prelude to his masterpiece, ‘Seiobo There Below’, a profound meditation on art, beauty, and impermanence told through 17 interconnected stories.

A Prestigious and Controversial History

The Nobel Prize in Literature, first awarded in 1901, has recognized some of the world’s most influential writers, including William Faulkner (1949), Winston Churchill (1953), and Orhan Pamuk (2006). Last year’s prize was awarded to South Korean author Han Kang.

However, the Swedish Academy’s choices have often sparked controversy. The 2016 award to American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan drew criticism over whether his lyrics qualified as literature. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, KERALA | October 9, 2025 – Leader of the Opposition (LoP) V. D. Satheesan announced that he would legally challenge the notice sent by former Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran, while sharply demanding that Surendran publicly identify the “millionaire” who allegedly purchased the original Dwarapalaka (door-guardian) sculpture from the temple premises.

​Addressing the media, Satheesan mounted a strong defense of his previous statements, arguing that his questions are rooted in the findings of the High Court.

​”My first reason is that the sale of the Dwarapalaka sculpture is a conclusion reached by the High Court,” Satheesan stated. “During its transport to Chennai, a fake mold of the idol was prepared in forty days, and the original Dwarapalaka idol was sold for a huge sum. The High Court specifically noted that the buyer was also deceived as they were not told it was stolen property.”

​Responsibility and Cover-Up Allegations

​The LoP also pinned responsibility for the alleged temple asset loss on the former minister. He highlighted recent statements by the current Devaswom Minister, V. N. Vasavan, and the Devaswom Board President, who claimed that all issues occurred in 2019—a period when Surendran held the portfolio.

​Satheesan directly questioned the close relationship between the former Minister and Unnikrishnan Potti, the person allegedly central to the replacement of the idol. “Kadakampally Surendran cannot deny his good relationship with Unnikrishnan Potti, then and now,” he said.

​Furthermore, Satheesan alleged a deliberate cover-up, pointing to the High Court judgment which indicates the government and Devaswom Board were aware of the loss of temple properties, including doors and doorframes, since 2022 but suppressed the information.

​”If Unnikrishnan Potti is solely responsible, why was no case filed against him? It is because a case against him would implicate people including Kadakampally,” Satheesan alleged.

​Divine Intervention and Further Threats

​Satheesan also revealed that Potti, the accused, had recently been recalled by the current Minister Vasavan and the Devaswom Board in 2025—a meeting that was exposed only due to the court’s intervention.

​He concluded by suggesting that the court’s timely intervention was akin to “Lord Ayyappan himself intervening” to prevent a second major theft—the gold idol (Thanga Vigraham).

​”We thought only gold was taken, but the Dwarapalaka sculpture was sold. The original was sold after replacing it with a fake mold,” Satheesan said, reaffirming his demand to know the identity of the millionaire purchaser. “The government and Devaswom Board have no defense in this matter.”

A decision to infuse ₹1,000 crore into the loss-making Tata International Ltd (TIL), a company chaired by Trusts’ Chairman Noel Tata, has caused a new “explosion” among the trustees, leading to serious allegations of governance violations.

A powerful faction of trustees—including Pramit Jhaveri, Mehli Mistry, Jehangir H.C. Jehangir, and Darius Khambatta—has strongly opposed the move. They allege that the decision was railroaded through a board meeting without adequate discussion, potentially breaching the crucial Article 121A of Tata Sons’ Articles of Association, which mandates prior approval from the Trusts for major financial commitments.

What is the New Dispute?

The contentious decision was passed at a Tata Trust board meeting on September 11. “The issue is not whether TIL needed funds, but the manner in which this decision was made,” a source close to the dissenting trustees said. They argue that such a significant financial commitment was rushed, which goes against the operating principles of the Trusts.

The dissenting members also pointed out that they were informed at a very late stage about Tata Motors’ recent €3.8 billion (approx. ₹38,000 crore) acquisition of the Iveco Group, highlighting a pattern of being kept out of the loop on major decisions.

The Company at the Center of the Storm

Tata International Ltd (TIL), chaired by Noel Tata since 2010, operates across 27 countries in sectors like auto distribution and leather exports. However, the company has been struggling for years with heavy debt, foreign exchange losses, and a weak business model.

  • In FY 2023-24, TIL reported revenue of ₹28,000 crore but with an operating margin of just 1%.
  • By September 2024, its net debt had crossed ₹4,100 crore.
  • This year, the company is projected to post a net loss of around ₹477 crore.

What Happened in the Boardroom?

During a Tata Sons board meeting on August 8, TIL’s precarious financial situation was presented. While Noel Tata acknowledged the challenges, several board members questioned the rationale behind the capital infusion.

Critically, Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran himself warned that TIL’s actual funding requirement could be closer to ₹3,000 crore and that merely injecting capital would not solve its deeper structural problems. Despite these reservations, the funding resolution was ultimately passed.

The Real Issue: Transparency and Governance

The dissenting trustees maintain that their objection is not about the commercial aspects of the funding but about the breakdown of governance and transparency. Article 121A was specifically created to ensure collective oversight on large capital decisions. “If decisions are presented as faits accomplis, it undermines the transparency the Trusts are meant to uphold,” a source stated.

This latest conflict comes on the heels of a previous clash over the reappointment of director Vijay Singh, involving the same factions. It makes it clear that the battle within Tata Trusts is a fundamental one about its future direction and operating philosophy. In the absence of Ratan Tata, these internal feuds are raising serious concerns about the stability of the entire Tata empire.

CHENNAI: In a major breakthrough in the tragic cough syrup case that has shocked the states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the proprietor of the manufacturing company, Sresan Pharmaceuticals, has been arrested in Chennai. G. Ranganathan was taken into custody on Thursday morning in connection with the deaths of several children who had consumed a contaminated cough syrup named “Coldrif.”

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Madhya Pradesh, with assistance from the Ashok Nagar police in Chennai, apprehended Ranganathan from his residence in Kodambakkam today. The syrup is linked to the deaths of at least 21 children in Madhya Pradesh alone, according to police findings.

Following the arrest, a joint team of Madhya Pradesh and Chennai police conducted an extensive raid on the company’s manufacturing unit located in Sunguvarchatram, Kancheepuram district. Investigators seized production records and medicine samples from the facility.

The manufacturing plant, situated along the Chennai-Bengaluru highway, has since been sealed by the authorities. The company’s registered office in Kodambakkam was found to be shut.

Police suspect that the company was aware of the impending investigation. Local residents reported seeing staff members suspiciously clearing out computers and other equipment from the Kodambakkam office late at night last week, a move police believe may have been an attempt to destroy evidence.

The swift action by the SIT was triggered by a damning laboratory report from the Tamil Nadu Director of Drugs Control. The analysis confirmed the presence of lethal toxic substances in the “Coldrif” cough syrup.

This crucial report was submitted to the Madhya Pradesh government on October 4. Based on these findings, the Madhya Pradesh government immediately imposed a ban on “Coldrif” and all other medicines manufactured by Sresan Pharmaceuticals. Subsequently, the SIT was formed, and the investigation was extended to Tamil Nadu, leading to today’s arrest.

Ranganathan has been booked under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other relevant laws. The Madhya Pradesh police stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine if more individuals were involved in the case.

Explosive Allegations: IPS Officer’s Widow Accuses Haryana DGP of Abetment to Suicide, Citing ‘Systematic Caste Humiliation’

​CHANDIGARH: In a development that has sent shockwaves through the Haryana administrative circles, the widow of a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, who allegedly died by suicide earlier this week, has lodged a formal complaint naming the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Singh Kapur for abetment to suicide.

​IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, wife of the late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, submitted an emotional and detailed complaint to the Chandigarh police, demanding an FIR be filed under provisions including the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and BNS Section 108 (Abetment to Suicide). She also sought the arrest of DGP Kapur and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia, alleging they were collectively responsible for her husband’s death.

​In her complaint, Ms. Kumar stated that her husband, an officer of “unimpeachable integrity,” endured “years of systematic humiliation, harassment, and persecution” by powerful superiors, specifically alleging that the DGP was the primary tormentor. She claims this persecution was driven by caste discrimination due to her husband’s Scheduled Caste background.

​The complaint alleges that a conspiracy was actively being orchestrated under DGP Kapur’s direction to “falsely frame” the deceased officer in a “frivolous complaint.” This alleged plot involved a recent FIR registered in Rohtak against one of her husband’s former staff members, which she believes was an attempt to eventually implicate Puran Kumar himself.

​Eight-Page Suicide Note Recovered

​Ms. Kumar confirmed that an eight-page suicide note, described as a “document of a broken spirit,” was recovered by police and CFSL experts. The note is said to reveal the names of several officers whose “relentless actions drove him to the edge.”

​The widow highlighted that her husband had repeatedly complained of caste-based exclusion, humiliation, and had invoked the protection of the SC/ST Act, but his pleas were consistently ignored.

​While the DGP’s office has yet to respond to the allegations, Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia told the media that the officer was neither named as an accused nor summoned by the Rohtak police in the extortion case. He expressed faith in the ongoing probe by the Chandigarh police regarding the complaint against him.

​Demanding justice for her family, the IAS officer stressed that the DGP and SP must be arrested, fearing their positions of power could be used to tamper with evidence and influence witnesses in this sensitive case.
