New Delhi: In a major national security breach, the Delhi Police have arrested an Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander on charges of allegedly leaking sensitive defence and military deployment secrets to a foreign intelligence handler believed to be operated from Pakistan.
The officer, who was arrested under the stringent Official Secrets Act, is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail after completing police custody. According to police sources, the operation was executed on the night of May 31, 2026, following specific intelligence inputs shared by the IAF’s internal intelligence wing.
The Honey Trap Modus Operandi
Investigating officers revealed that the Wing Commander fell victim to an online honey trap during a vulnerable period in his personal life. The officer began communicating with an unidentified woman on social media, which quickly escalated to frequent video chats and voice calls.
Once the woman gained his trust, she began extracting sensitive military information. According to investigators, the officer shared:
Digital data, photographs, and video clips related to troop movements.
Strategic locations and deployment details of military units.
Restricted official documents and data via encrypted digital channels.
Attempted Malware & Spyware Infiltration
The investigation uncovered an even more alarming dimension to the case. The female operative allegedly asked the Wing Commander to install a specific mobile application on one of his colleague’s phones.
Counter-intelligence agencies suspect this application was malware or spyware designed to gain remote access to surrounding defence personnel’s mobile phones, enabling foreign handlers to track real-time locations, extract classified files, and tap audio/video communications across a wider military network.
Ongoing Investigation & Digital Trail
Delhi Police and central intelligence agencies suspect this incident is not an isolated affair but part of a larger cross-border espionage network targeting Indian armed forces personnel.
Agencies are currently tracing the complete digital footprint, analyzing server logs, encrypted chat apps, and financial trails to quantify the exact volume of leaked national security secrets and to identify all foreign and domestic collaborators involved in the network.
