Thiruvananthapuram: Social security and welfare pension distribution in Kerala will continue through the existing mechanisms for the current month. Beneficiaries will receive their payments either directly through their bank accounts or via doorstep delivery by cooperative bank representatives.
Meanwhile, the state government is preparing for a major structural reform in the pension disbursement system. The Finance Department issued an official order on July 27, 2026, granting in-principle approval to transition all social security and welfare fund board pension payouts to the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. Under the upcoming framework, only bedridden patients will remain exempt from compulsory DBT, continuing to receive home delivery.
The policy shift aims to streamline pension payments, curb administrative leakages, and ensure transparent electronic transfers directly to verified bank accounts. The Finance Department is expected to formally announce the implementation date once the required technical integration and bank account mapping process are finalized.
