Real Madrid suffered a dramatic 1-0 defeat against Real Betis in LaLiga, with Kylian Mbappé missing a crucial stoppage-time penalty that could have rescued a point for José Mourinho’s side.
The decisive moment came in the 81st minute when Troy Parrott scored for Real Betis after Thibaut Courtois had made an initial save, only for the rebound to fall perfectly for the Betis forward.
Madrid pushed hard for an equaliser and appeared to have found one through Carlos Espí, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review for offside. The drama intensified deep into stoppage time when Vinícius Júnior was fouled inside the penalty area, giving Mbappé the opportunity to level the match from the spot.
However, Betis goalkeeper Álvaro Valles produced the decisive save to deny Mbappé and secure a memorable victory for the home side.
The defeat ended Real Madrid’s winning start and marked Mourinho’s first loss since returning to the club. Despite creating several opportunities, Madrid were unable to find the finishing touch on a frustrating night in Seville
