Anupama Parameswaran: ‘Premam’ Trolls Made Me Hesitate to Act; Celebrating ‘Bison’ Success as My Victory

CHENNAI: Popular actress Anupama Parameswaran has opened up about the emotional turmoil she faced at the start of her career, revealing that the severe trolling she endured after her blockbuster debut, Premam, nearly caused her to abandon acting entirely.

Speaking at a recent press event for her latest film, Bison, the actress shared a candid account of her decade-long journey in cinema. “The trolls at the beginning of my film career hurt me deeply emotionally. It wasn’t easy to deal with,” she confessed.

The actress, who rose to fame with the 2015 Malayalam hit, admitted that the criticism—specifically doubts cast on her acting abilities in Malayalam cinema—led to a period of intense self-doubt. “Because of those criticisms, I doubted myself and hesitated to act in films for a few days,” she revealed.

However, Anupama made a conscious decision to overcome the negativity, dedicating herself to her craft and capitalizing on every opportunity that followed. This resilience has seen her establish a strong foothold across South Indian cinema, starring in prominent Tamil films like Dhanush’s Kodi and becoming a leading face in Telugu cinema as well.

The actress is now celebrating a major milestone with the success of her upcoming film, Bison, where she stars opposite Dhruv Vikram. She expressed immense pride in her journey, looking back at the determination required to establish herself in multiple languages—Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu—simultaneously.

Offering a message of hope, Anupama aimed to inspire young actors grappling with online abuse. “Criticism on social media can sometimes be heartbreaking. But it cannot stop us. With faith and hard work, we can turn any wound into victory,” she stated confidently, emphasizing that her triumph over early career hardships now serves as an inspiration for the next generation.
