LONDON, October 10, 2025 – Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has embarked on a new career path, announcing Thursday that he has accepted senior advisory positions at tech giant Microsoft and leading AI startup Anthropic. The move marks a significant pivot into the private technology sector for the former leader.
Despite his defeat in last July’s general election, which led to him stepping down as the Conservative Party leader, Sunak continues to serve as a Member of Parliament. In a LinkedIn post detailing his new roles, Sunak confirmed that all proceeds from these appointments will be donated to The Richmond Project, a charitable organization he co-founded with his wife, Akshata Murty.
Both appointments have been structured to comply with the UK’s Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA), which governs new jobs for former ministers. Google and Amazon-backed Anthropic stated that the part-time, internally focused role is fully compliant.
Sunak’s responsibilities will involve providing strategic advice on global macroeconomic and geopolitical trends. At Anthropic, his focus will be on global strategy, explicitly excluding UK-specific policy. Similarly, at Microsoft, he will offer strategic perspectives on global trends and is slated to speak at the company’s annual summit.
Under the ACOBA regulations, Sunak is barred from lobbying the UK government on behalf of either company for two years from his last day in office. He is also prohibited from using any privileged information obtained during his time as prime minister.
This venture into the tech industry follows Sunak’s return to the financial world in July, when he rejoined his former employer, Goldman Sachs, in an advisory capacity.
