Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of the United Democratic Front’s (UDF) landslide victory in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, a new internal storm has gathered. The focal point is the stark contrast between the “Team UDF” strategy led by VD Satheesan and what many describe as the “solo dance” of AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal.
The roots of this controversy trace back to the conclusion of the Puthuyuga Yatra. During the rally, Rahul Gandhi delivered a memorable analogy: “When everyone performs a group dance, the audience remains focused. Do not attempt a solo dance in the middle of a collective performance.” Gandhi’s message was clear—unity is the only path to victory.
Following the 2021 debacle, VD Satheesan was appointed Leader of the Opposition with the Herculean task of rebuilding a fractured alliance. He successfully transformed the coalition into “Team UDF,” a cohesive unit that worked on the ground to secure a massive 102-seat mandate, ending LDF’s dominance.
However, as the celebrations began, critics and party loyalists noticed a shift. KC Venugopal, operating from Delhi, has been accused of attempting to hijack the victory as his personal achievement. This “solo dance” has triggered public resentment, with many pointing out that it directly contradicts the very principle of “Group Dance” (Teamwork) that Rahul Gandhi advocated. While Satheesan’s grassroots teamwork brought the UDF to power, the perceived credit-seeking by Venugopal is being viewed as an insult to the collective effort of the state leadership.
