SYDNEY — A massive sigh of relief has swept through the Indian cricket fraternity after the family of star batsman Shreyas Iyer confirmed he is “out of danger” and on the road to recovery following a serious, rare injury sustained during the third One Day International (ODI) against Australia.
Iyer’s sister, Shresta Iyer, shared a post on Instagram, confirming her location as Sydney, where the cricketer is undergoing treatment, assuring fans of his improving health. The move signals the family’s presence by his side during the crucial recovery phase.
The Blunt Force Injury
The 30-year-old middle-order batsman suffered a severe blunt injury to his abdomen on Saturday while attempting a difficult running catch to dismiss Alex Carey. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) later confirmed the diagnosis: a laceration of his spleen coupled with a rib cage injury, which led to internal bleeding.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Sydney where doctors promptly identified and arrested the bleeding. India’s Twenty20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, described the injury as “rare,” adding a layer of concern to the incident.
Significant Improvement Confirmed
The latest medical update provided by the BCCI on Tuesday, October 28, has brought positive news. A repeat scan showed “significant improvement” in Iyer’s condition, and he has been officially declared stable.
In his first public comments since the incident, Iyer took to social media, expressing gratitude to his supporters: “I’m currently in the recovery process and getting better every passing day. I’m deeply grateful for all the kind wishes and support I’ve received—it truly means a lot to me.”
The BCCI Medical Team continues to closely monitor his progress in consultation with specialists both in Sydney and India, ensuring a complete and safe return to full fitness.
